First Look at Lalbaugcha Raja 2025: Muhurat Puja, Theme, Crown & What to Expect

Festival Dates & First Glimpse

The spiritual journey of Mumbai’s most iconic Ganpati, Lalbaugcha Raja, has officially begun. The 92nd-year celebration was marked by a traditional Muhurat Puja on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 6:00 AM, led by the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal.

The puja was performed at the sculptor’s workshop, signaling the official start of idol-making and preparation for Ganesh Chaturthi, which falls on August 27, 2025. The festivities will continue until Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, 2025.

Sponsored Gold Crown & Special Arrangements

This year, as in 2024, major sponsorship has come from Anant Ambani, who previously donated a 20 kg gold crown valued at ₹16 crore. For 2025, his support continues with:

  • Air-conditioned darshan setup
  • Decoration and mandap lighting
  • Food arrangements (bhandara) for lakhs of devotees

This is the first time ever that the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal will have full AC facilities to ease the discomfort during long queue hours in Mumbai’s humid August weather.

Pandal Construction & Theme Update

While the mandal hasn’t officially revealed the 2025 theme, insiders suggest it could highlight Ayodhya Ram Mandir or a traditional Maharashtrian fort like Raigad, similar to earlier years.

Construction is already in progress at the traditional site near Lalbaug Market, with artisans and volunteers working in sync to ensure everything is ready well before the August opening.

Stay tuned for the “pratham darshan” (first look) of the completed idol, which is expected around August 25.

Darshan & Aarti Timings

As per tradition, there will be two main types of darshan:

Darshan TypeWait Time (Approx)Purpose
Mukh Darshan2–4 hoursTo view idol from distance
Navsacha Line18–40 hoursTo touch feet and make a wish

Daily aarti times are expected to be:

  • Afternoon Aarti – 12:30 PM
  • Evening Aarti – 8:00 PM

(Exact times may change, based on Mandal updates.)

Crowd Control & Police Arrangements

The Mumbai Police and BMC will install:

  • CCTV, drone surveillance & control rooms
  • Over 20,000 volunteers and officers on ground
  • Mobile toilets, water stations & first-aid booths
  • Dedicated queue lines for women, senior citizens, and specially-abled devotees

My personal tip as a Mumbai taxi driver? 🚖
Avoid visiting on weekends if possible. Early morning visits between 5 AM to 8 AM on weekdays have shorter lines and smoother traffic.

Tips for Devotees (From a Local Mumbaikar)

  • Carry water, power bank, and light snacks
  • Prefer cotton clothes, shoes with grip
  • Keep important numbers written down
  • Use official Lalbaugcha Raja website or YouTube for live darshan

Final Thoughts

Lalbaugcha Raja is not just a Ganesh idol – he’s an emotion for millions of Mumbaikars. With new features like the AC darshan line, golden crown, and large-scale arrangements, 2025 promises to be one of the most comfortable and grandest years yet.

Whether you seek blessings in person or join virtually, the aura of Navsacha Raja continues to unite Mumbai with bhakti and pride.
